ROME, AUGUST 11 – The situation in Lebanon and in Libya, the collective response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the investigation on the death of the Italian citizen Mario Paciolla in Colombia were on the agenda of a phone call between the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres.
During the conversation, Di Maio and Guterres addressed the case of the Italian volunteer with the UN Verification Mission in Bogota’. Paciolla was found dead on July 15 and his family suspects that he was killed. Di Maio expressed the strong expectation that the competent Colombian authorities can continue to count on the full cooperation of the United Nations to reach a rapid solution of the case.
The UN Secretary-General, expressing his deepest condolences to the family for the tragic death of Mario Paciolla, reiterated to Minister Di Maio the full cooperation of the United Nations and his interest in the matter. (@OnuItalia)
