GENEVA, JUNE 27 – “Italy strongly condemns any form of violence and discrimination against women, while says yes to gender parity and equal opportunities for all”. The Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Gian Lorenzo Cornado, intervened today at the annual full day meeting on the rights of women, during the 41st Session of the Human Rights Council.
During the panel on violence against women in the world of work, Ambassador Cornado strongly condemned any form of violence and discrimination against women. He said that violence and harassment against women in the world of work are an abuse of power and are often the result of multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination and stated that women may be more exposed to sexual harassment, wage gaps for equal work, job insecurity, and forms of vertical segregation.
Ambassador Cornado also recalled the statement delivered by the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the International Labour Organization in support of gender equality and equal opportunities for all. (@OnuItalia)
